Bathroom Eleven Wintery Wonderland

Another Year Over…

Christmas is upon us, and 2018 has flown by in a brisk whoosh of varying trends, sumptuous colours and new products. Today’s blog is going to look back over the past year at favourite trends. While also looking at which colours to keep an eye on as we head into 2019, added with a touch of nostalgia as we look back at our favourite products from 2018.

A Flashback of 2018 Trends

As we head into 2019, it’s always exciting to see what trends have appeared in designs over the past year and, more importantly, which ones will continue to grow into the new year.

Blush Pink

An early trend which has carried through from spring right into the autumn months is the blush pink vibe. Showcased in products, wallpapers and tiles. It’s still proving to be a popular shade when adding a pop of colour or creating a warmth to bathrooms. This colour effortlessly adds a soft elegance.

Throughout the year, where this colour has cropped up, it has presented an exciting opportunity to bring in patterns and wallpapers. Furthermore, when it came to finishes on taps, we were able to quietly implement this colour for a soft finish. Using ranges from Axor and Vado; We found the brushed red-gold, brushed nickel and even brass finishes have enhanced the luxurious feel to this palette. Choosing these colours in their brushed over polished finishes also creates a softer look. While making cleaning and maintenance an easier process, particularly in hard water areas.

Black and Blue

Throughout our ranges of brassware, shower units and furniture, we saw black and blues become firmly established. The two colours, when combined, bring a smart and sophisticated edge to any bathroom. Even with this intellectual palette, you can create a design with geometric and other patterns to give your bathroom a unique and personable feel.

Though perhaps not the initial go-to, pairing these together can create a dramatic and exciting environment for you to shower or bathe in.

Copper and Metallics

As shown above, copper is proving to be a favoured metallic finish for clients wanting ‘something a bit different’. When paired with deep blues and inky blacks, it adds drama and a heightened luxury to bathroom designs.

However, copper hasn’t been the only favourite metal this year. Brass and Gold have proven increasingly popular too. Particularly when paired with marble. The appearance of Bronze and Brushed Black Chrome have also added a new twist in the offerings. We particularly love the finishes from Axor which can be seen in our Design showcasing the Citterio E Range.

These metallic finishes look stunning when paired with the right concrete, stone or wood effect tiles. To accentuate a luxurious feel, transfer this finish around the room; such as tiles, mosaics and even light fittings.

Heading into 2019 – a splash of colour!

All of these trends are staying strong as we catapult towards 2019. However, where these colour palettes are perhaps a little softer or have deeper tones of colours, 2019 shows promise for a more striking approach to design. From clothes to interiors we’ve been teased with yellow, red, green and blue – all in their boldest forms.

Some of our favourite brands shown in our Design Studio have introduced more colours for us to play with. We can’t wait to use them with our more adventurous clients, that are daring enough to add a splash of colour! If you’re perhaps a little more reserved, remember that adding colour doesn’t mean having a lime green wall or a bright yellow ceiling. We can introduce colours in a balanced fashion, be it through highlighting or accentuating, rather than all out colour blasting your room.

From tiles to baths and vanity units, colour is splashing into every area of bathroom design. GSI and Catalano have announced the arrival of their colours ceramics (particularly appealing for those of us wanting to achieve colour with a more subtle touch). No Code, Vanity Hall and Svedbergs offer us the chance to add colour to any Vanity Unit we have access to. While BC Designs are furthering the trend with their ever-popular boat bath, available with any colour finish.

Other design ideas and products we have noted for our attention in 2019 are concrete seamless finishes, bathroom wallpaper and more brassware finishes.

As everyone strives for fewer grout lines, manufacturers are bringing out larger tiles – such as the 1200mm x 2400mm from Porcelanosa which we can’t wait to use! Other creators have fabricated single panel surfaces for shower trays, walls and even basin counter tops. We already love the joint-less look achieved with Corian in our bathrooms. However, we are now looking to take this onto walls and floors too. Stay tuned for more developments on this!
