Fluted family bathroom in Richmond
Our Richmond based professional couple, wanted a more contemporary feel to their traditional bathroom. The room featured an unsightly cupboard that houses a boiler, leaving the space awkward with unusable areas.
We changed the layout, swapping the position of the bath and WC, creating a larger basin and shower area. Utilising the ‘dead’ areas, the bathroom has become a more user friendly space.
The free standing bath by BC Designs, is like an elegant fluted 1920’s champagne glass. Offering a contemporary touch to a vintage design. This ties in beautifully with the Drench fluted shower screen, with brushed gold frame.
We added further touches of brushed gold with brassware from Vado. Implemented within the spacious shower, over the bath and for the basin. We used accessories in the same finish, to create a natural flow throughout the room.
The organic shaped mirror, over the basin, brings balance to the sloped ceiling. We framed this with Mullan Lighting (with exposed bulbs) to create a beautiful feature when illuminated.
We created a modern feel to this vintage style, by using large format tiles, coupled with traditional ‘aged’ metro tiles, inspired by Italian pottery. The soft tones give a calm feel to this Richmond bathroom.
To disguise the boiler cupboard, we removed the doors, and clad the unit in slatted wood veneers. By devising ‘push to open’ doors for access, we have created the illusion of a solid wall. The walnut finish on the basin unit, ties in elegantly with the wood panelling, enhancing the spa feel of this room.

To create a seamless look, we used a push to open mechanism on the slated wood veneers. Hiding the boiler while creating a spa feel with the tactile textures.
We introduced crosshead brassware, enhancing the classic element in this contemporary design. With brushed gold finish, to elevate the look.
Layered lighting, including under the basin, eradicate shadows and increases the sense of space. Soft lighting in the shower recesses, and exposed wall lights add drama. The various lighting elements, allows our client to have practical everyday lighting, or an indulgent spa retreat feel.
